Hera UV Mist Nude Cushion Review for Pale Skin!

If you’ve got pale skin and are thinking about getting the Hera UV Mist Nude Cushion, read on to see my thoughts on it for pale skin!

Hera is a Korean brand of cosmetics.  I got a refill compact of the Hera UV Mist Nude Cushion in the shade 13 Ivory, to try out, and also because I just love the name Hera, haha.  Any other Greek mythology buffs out there?

The pros of this cushion:

Shade 13 Ivory is light enough for me!  It is a light neutral shade.  For reference, I am in the shade Y205 Alabaster for the MUFE Ultra HD foundation, and Y215 Yellow Alabaster for the MUFE Water Blend foundation.  I have been matched to NC15 for MAC, but I think NC5 or NC10 would be better if MAC made those shades.  I have a neutral skin tone, but lean towards yellow.

Nothing on my face except the Hera UV Mist Nude Cushion in shade 13 Ivory

It is a dewy foundation.  It will make your skin glow, if you’re into that, which I am.

It offers light coverage, which I like, but this could be a con for some.

It’s moisturizing, so it’s good for dry skinned people like me.

It has SPF 34.  I would still use my regular sunscreen underneath though, as with all foundations.

It smells good.  The scent doesn’t linger on your face though.

It looks good in photos and in real life at a distance (when I see myself in a mirror, I think, the skin looks good)

Hera UV Mist Nude Cushion Shade 13 Ivory

On the skin: Hera UV Mist Nude Cushion Shade 13 Ivory with a layer of Maybelline Fit Me pressed powder, and Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer in Light

The cons:

It never sets.  I find the Hera UV Mist Nude Cushion always feels sticky and tacky on my face.  I definitely needed to powder or else my hair gets stuck on my cheeks.

If you touch your face without setting with powder, foundation will come off, and the foundation also slides around on your face.

If you powder, it will look cakey and bring out any lines you have.  I think it still looks good in photos and if you’re not standing too close to people, but closer up, the cakiness shows.  Not pleasant!

I think it oxidizes a shade darker.

There does not seem to be much product in the cushion.  I used the cushion for 3 weeks and it looks empty.  I’m pressing the puff into the cushion pretty hard, and not much is coming up anymore (see photo).

I tried storing the cushion upside down so product can drain to the top of the cushion, but that did not help. I don’t even use that much product because I prefer a sheer layer of foundation!

I wondered if the product dried up because I don’t have the actual compact to store the refill in (I just got the refill cushion to try).  But the refill has its own cap that closes securely, so I don’t think drying up is the reason.

Do I recommend the Hera UV Mist Nude Cushion? I don’t.

Honestly, with all the k-beauty craze going on, I’m disappointed that I haven’t found any Korean cosmetics that I like.  When I first used this cushion, I really thought I was going to like it.  Although the shade match is great for pale skin, and it will give you a lovely glow, the stickiness, cakiness, and “emptiness” of the Hera UV Mist Nude Cushion after less than a month of use is not my cup of tea.  I guess I am happy that I finished a foundation  for my Use Up That Makeup goals though!  I got the cushion from Jolse

I bought something… L’Oreal Colour Riche Pocket Palette in Boudoir Charme

Well, it was good while it lasted 🙂  Today I purchased a piece of makeup and broke my strict no-buy until the end of 2017.  I had a good run – about 2 months of not purchasing any makeup.

I’m not kicking myself for my purchase today though.  After decluttering all of the products that I wasn’t using, the sight of which was giving me stress and anger, and having a nice detox from makeup,  I feel like I’m in a better place with makeup. I still am steering clear of the buy buy buy mentality.  I no longer idly browse makeup aisles (…except for today when I went in to get a spoolie for my eye brows),  but I think this one small item should be fine.  The no buy will definitely resume after this!

Now what was it that broke my will and my no-buy?  This little guy:

Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in Pale Yellow Review!

Summer weather has rolled in where I live (oh hello, 100 degree weather!) and with that comes sweat and shine on my face.  Though face powders are kind of a boring, blah makeup product to me,  they can become an essential product to have in the summer.  A nice pressed powder can keep the oilies and over-glow at bay.  Today I want to talk about the Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in Pale Yellow.  I’ve been using it for about two months, and here are my thoughts!

Use Up That Makeup! May Makeup Basket and mini reviews

I know it’s a bit late but I was traveling….May is here, can you believe it? And it’s time for a new makeup basket and a Use Up that Makeup update!  I didn’t wear much makeup for the month of April, so there is no discernible progress on the products I chose for my April makeup basket unfortunately.  I thought about taking pictures of the April products, but they look exactly the same so I guess I won’t.  The only thing that looks satisfyingly low is my tiny Chloe Fleur de Parfum sample!  Now that May is upon us, I have switched out some of the products, and I am ready to use my May Makeup Basket!

Here are the products I want to focus on using in the May Makeup Basket:

Missha’s The Original Tension Pact Natural Cover Review for Pale Skin!

I recently got my hands on some Korean beauty items and I am excited to write about my first impressions, especially the foundations.  Finding a foundation for pale skin is hard enough, but add in Asian skin undertones and you sometimes have a whole new level of difficulty.  Anyway, I thought testing some Korean brands would make finding foundations with the correct undertone a bit easier.  My first review and first impressions will be on Missha’s The Original Tension Pact Natural Cover in the shade 21.  Read on to see my thoughts!

Nature Republic Argan Essential Oil Hair Mist Review

Nature Republic is a Korean brand that offers a variety of cosmetics and skin care inspired by nature.  I was walking around my local Nature Republic store the other day and they were having a big sale on certain items, so I decided to try the Nature Republic Argan Essential Oil Hair Mist.  It is supposed to provide nutrition to damaged hair and make it soft and tangle-free.  Read on to see my thoughts!

Nature Republic Essential Argan Hair Mist Review

When I saw the Nature Republic Argan Essential Oil Hair Mist, I thought it could be a nice thing to use on the daily because it seems fast and because it is a mist, it wouldn’t weigh down my hair with oils.  My hair is rather coarse, so I was hoping this hair mist would soften it a little.

The Nature Republic Argan Essential Oil Hair Mist comes in a typical spray bottle and sprays as a fine mist.  The liquid inside looks just like water.  I don’t see any oiliness in it at all, so I’m not sure how much nourishment my hair is going to get with this.  When I sprayed it, I did get a strong whiff of alcohol.  Alcohol is one of the ingredients listed, and I’m not sure why they would have it in there if it’s supposed to nourish and soften hair!  My hair is rather oily though so this may not be an issue for me.  Other than that, there is no other discernible fragrance.

Nature Republic Argan Essential OIl Hair Mist Review

So, per the instructions, you can mist this over your wet or dry hair.  The first time I tried this, I tried it on dry hair.  BIG MISTAKE.  My hair looked stringy and greasy, and only on the top layer where I spray it too, so it looked extra weird!  I tried combing it out and it helped a little, but a minute later, my hair would be back to stringy yuckiness!

Greasy, stringy hair after misting this spray on dry hair

Nature Republic Argan Essential OIl Hair Mist Review

After combing through, but a minute later, it’s back to intense greasy stringiness 🙁

I would never recommend using this product on dry hair, period.  Maybe if I were at the beach and could pull off a wet beach hair look, but for all other days, it’ll just look greasy.

Next I tried the hair mist on freshly washed hair because the moisture should distribute the product for evenly.  My hair does not look stringy or greasy when the hair mist is used on wet hair, but it does feel a bit weighed down after my hair dried.  I think the Nature Republic Argan Essential Oil Hair Mist gave my hair some more texture when used in this manner though, which is nice.  As for whether my hair feels softer…I honestly cannot tell!

All in all, I would not recommend this product.  It looks terrible when sprayed on dry hair, and if you spray it on wet hair, it can weigh it down once dried.  However, it does give some texture once your hair has dried, which is nice.  I also don’t know how much nourishing oils are in this product since the spray looks just like water.  It also contains alcohol, which I don’t know, but it seems like it would be damaging to hair in general.   My hair is pretty coarse and each strand is thick though, so it may be ok for my hair.  I will try to use it up since I bought it, or just save it for days at the beach, but I will not be repurchasing.

All items mentioned were purchased by myself.  All opinions are my own.

L’Oreal Brow Stylist Kabuki Blender Review!

The L’Oreal Brow Stylist Kabuki Blender in the shade dark brunette is a large crayon style brow product.  It promises soft and full brows, which is what I typically gravitate towards.  The tiny kabuki brush on the other end of the crayon is used to blend the product after it is applied to your brows.  Always interested in brow products, I recently picked this up because I have never used a crayon brow product before.  Read on for my L’Oreal Brow Stylist Kabuki Blender review!

Essie Ballet Nudes At The Barre Nail Polish Review!

I use to be addicted to ballet.  I took lessons when I was young, during college I was in a dance group, and though I no longer do ballet, I am still drawn to ethereal tulles and beautifully arched feet in pointe shoes.  I’m hooked!  When I found out Essie came out with a line of Gel Couture nail polishes called Ballet Nudes, well, needless to say, I skedaddled over to Ulta.  Yes, they looked as classic and soft and perfect as I had always thought ballet was (though ballerinas are in no way, “soft”…behind that fairy-like beauty are muscles of steel and blood and sweat!).  I just picked up one color  called At the Barre.  Read on to see my Essie Ballet Nudes At The Barre Nail Polish review!

Makeup Forever Ultra HD Concealer Review for Pale Skin!

If there is one thing I feel justified in splurging, it’s base makeup.  Truthfully, if your base makeup works well for your skin, then most of your work is done, and as much as I hate to admit it, I think there is a difference in quality between high end and drugstore foundations and concealers.  Besides formula, the biggest issue for me is color.  For all pale skinned people out there, you know that the drugstore color selection is sometimes horrifically lacking!  Well, now that that schpiel is done, I am here to say that splurge I did over the weekend, on the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Concealer in the shade Y21, the palest yellow toned concealer shade in the collection. Read on for my Makeup Forever Ultra HD Concealer review for pale skin!
