If you follow any kind of beauty channel or blog, you’ve most likely heard about L’Oreal’s new Lash Paradise mascara. EVERYONE was raving about this new mascara and how it’s a dupe for the Too Face Better than Sex mascara, which I’ve never tried. I managed to get my hands on a tube of L’Oreal Lash Paradise a few weeks after it was released – it was so freaking hard because it was not in any drugstore around me. I had to order it online from Target.com, which is highly annoying because we see all of the reviews and that it’s now released, but it’s actually nowhere in real life! I read from another blog that drugstores are releasing new items online first rather than in actual stores to make it more exclusive….but honestly, it’s drugstore makeup. It’s supposed to be accessible and inexpensive. Just let the people have it. *Eye Roll*. Anyway, read on to see how I feel about the L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara after a month of use.
The first few times I used this mascara, I thought it was just ok. But once the mascara was exposed to air after a few days of use, I LOVED it. The formula was amazing – a bit drier or waxier than some mascaras, but I think that’s what helps the mascara grip your lashes and add volume. Something about the hourglass shape of the wand also made my lashes fluttery and volumized, with a bit of added length. L’oreal Lash Paradise has the regular bristle wand that I prefer instead of the silicone wand. I find that bristle wands fan out and define the lashes more than silicone.
Packaging is pretty with a light pink and pale gold case. My wedding colors are actually light pink and pale gold, lol. I didn’t actually pick wedding colors, but it kind of just grew into light pink and gold as wedding planning progressed.
After a month of use though, I now find my tube of L’oreal Lash Paradise mascara clumpier on application. My conclusion is that the mascara, which has a drier formula to begin with, is now just drying out, which is a con because it has only been about one month. I now use my lash comb to get rid of the clumps.
As you can see in the pictures, the formula is now quite goopy. I wipe off the excess from the wand prior to use, but the clumpiness still remains on application.
Another con is that the L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara sometimes smudges underneath my eyes. Not cute! Other times, it does not smudge, and I’m not sure why. L’Oreal mascaras have smudged on me in the past though, so it was not totally unexpected. Weirdly enough, even though this mascara smudges on me, it is harder to take off with makeup remover. I have to hold a cotton pad with micellar water over my lashes for longer than what I normally do to soak the mascara off. The tube I have is not even the waterproof version.
If I work out with this mascara on, it definitely smudges terribly. Like serious panda eyes. I have worn other non-waterproof mascaras that did not budge at all through workouts. I’m not really taking points off for smudging while exercising though. It’s just an added bonus if the mascara manages to stay put while sweating!
All in all, I probably will not repurchase this mascara. While it truly was amazing for the first month, it’s already drying up and clumping. Also, if L’oreal mascaras have smudged on you in the past, this one may also smudge on you as it does on me.
Did you try the L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara? Do you think it’s worth the hype?
