I love glowy skin, so when I saw that Laura Mercier was coming out with a new powder that gives a luminous, soft-focus effect like that from candlelight, I was intrigued! Here are my thoughts on the Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting powder.
The Candleglow sheer perfecting powder is a pressed powder that you can use to set and finish makeup. There are several different shades, and I got the lightest one, #1 Fair at Sephora
At first glance, it is a pretty golden color. The texture is very fine. There are no glitter or shimmer particles that I can detect when I swatched it. All I saw was a slight sheen on my finger when I rubbed it off.
If I had to choose a keyword for this powder it would be subtlety! This powder is not going to make your skin look noticeably more luminous. It will lightly blur imperfections and give your skin a soft-focus effect though.
When I applied with a heavier hand, the Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting powder does impart some color to my skin. I looked a little warmer! I guess that’s like candleglow 🙂 But if dusted on lightly, there was no pigmentation that I could detect. With either method, I achieved a soft-focus effect that I really liked.
The powder reminds me of Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Powders. In my opinion though, I like the Laura Mercier powder much more. I do not have my Hourglass powder anymore, but I remember I couldn’t detect any difference on my skin after application. I rarely reached for it! With the Laura Mercier, I can see that soft-focus action working, and I want more!
Since I can get a stronger glow elsewhere with other products, I am not too worried that I didn’t see added luminosity happening here. I didn’t think the powder took away from the glow on my skin (unless if I were full out DEWY I suppose). The Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder does make my skin look better by blurring imperfections, and that is what I will be using this powder for! I suggest you test out this powder if you want that soft focus action!
Have you tried this powder? What are your thoughts?
