Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in Pale Yellow Review!

Summer weather has rolled in where I live (oh hello, 100 degree weather!) and with that comes sweat and shine on my face.  Though face powders are kind of a boring, blah makeup product to me,  they can become an essential product to have in the summer.  A nice pressed powder can keep the oilies and over-glow at bay.  Today I want to talk about the Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in Pale Yellow.  I’ve been using it for about two months, and here are my thoughts!

Use Up That Makeup! May Makeup Basket and mini reviews

I know it’s a bit late but I was traveling….May is here, can you believe it? And it’s time for a new makeup basket and a Use Up that Makeup update!  I didn’t wear much makeup for the month of April, so there is no discernible progress on the products I chose for my April makeup basket unfortunately.  I thought about taking pictures of the April products, but they look exactly the same so I guess I won’t.  The only thing that looks satisfyingly low is my tiny Chloe Fleur de Parfum sample!  Now that May is upon us, I have switched out some of the products, and I am ready to use my May Makeup Basket!

Here are the products I want to focus on using in the May Makeup Basket:

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Review for Pale Skin!

Following my burgeoning crush on Bobbi Brown makeup, I recently got two samples of the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation at my local counter.  The foundation is supposed to give sheer to medium coverage and a very skin-like look, as its name suggests.  It is not a glowy or matte foundation, but very natural.  I was matched to both their lightest and second lightest shades, alabaster (00) and porcelain (0), and so I asked for a sample of both to try out at home to decide which one I liked more before purchasing.  Read on the see my Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation review for pale skin!

Although I will always love my dewy, fresh skin, sometimes I just want my skin to look like my skin.  I’ve always thought of Bobbi Brown brand as a classic, yet modern brand that enhances a person’s natural features so I thought I could definitely find a foundation here that fits the bill.  I was looking for a sheer to medium coverage foundation with a natural finish, and the lady at the counter suggested their Skin Foundation.

In terms of coverage, the first layer is rather sheer, and if I add on a second layer, I get a medium coverage that still lets my freckles show through a bit.  Note that I only apply a thin layer of foundation at a time.

The finish of this foundation is absolutely beautiful.  I fully agree that it blends into my skin and my skin looks like skin, but so much better.  My skin looked healthy.  However, my skin is quite dry, especially around my mouth and between my eyes, so in those areas, the foundation made my skin look powdery.  This foundation is meant for people with normal to oily skin, so I know this is not really the foundation’s fault because my forehead and cheeks (the more normal areas of my face) looked awesome!  And lets be honest – there hasn’t been one foundation, even the ones for dry skin, that has made my dry patches disappear.  However, just FYI, for my dry-skinned folks, this foundation can look noticeably powdery on your skin!

Based on how beautiful it was on the less dry areas of my face though, I was willing to overlook it and just exfoliate and over moisturize my face in preparation for this foundation if I chose to purchase it later.

This foundation feels very light on the skin, and there is no discernible scent to it.  My favorite kind of foundation!  The lasting power was all day, but my skin is dry, so that is typically the case for most foundations.  There was no oxidation for me either.

Now onto the color.  I was matched to alabaster 00 and porcelain 0.  Alabaster 00 is their lightest shade  It is a light beige with a white hint and pink undertone.  Porcelain 0 is their very fair beige with neutral undertones.

In the store, the nice lady who matched me thought porcelain worked better on me, but that alabaster also worked well.  I honestly couldn’t tell in the store myself, as store lighting is usually deceptive and terrible.  I was provided with little sample containers to test out at home before making a decision.  After trying it out the next week though, I think that neither of these shades work well for me unfortunately!!

I thought at first the porcelain 0 would work for me because it has neutral undertones, which suit me better.  However, when I apply it to my face, I can tell it is a bit darker than my neck and chest though the undertone worked quite well.

Wearing shade Porcelain 0

When I used alabaster 00, I thought the color match was amazing. However, the more I used it, the more I could see that the undertone was not quite right – it looked a bit pink and mismatched on my skin.  In some angles and some natural lighting, it matched perfectly, but in other situations (like certain artificial lighting and some other natural lighting), it looked off!

Wearing shade Alabaster 00. Looks like a pretty good match here!

Alabaster looks like a good match here too!

But now it looks a little too pink/light

If only porcelain with its neutral undertones were a shade lighter!!! Can we please make something like an ultra-porcelain? haha

So all in all, the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation is undoubtedly a beautiful foundation but the color is just not quite right for me to be spending $50+ on it.  The alabaster would be perfect for my pink toned ladies, or if you’re a smidge darker than me with neutral undertones, the porcelain would be perfect.  Definitely ask your local counter for free samples of the foundations before plunking down your money for it though!

All opinions are my own.
