Use Up That Makeup! May Makeup Basket and mini reviews

I know it’s a bit late but I was traveling….May is here, can you believe it? And it’s time for a new makeup basket and a Use Up that Makeup update!  I didn’t wear much makeup for the month of April, so there is no discernible progress on the products I chose for my April makeup basket unfortunately.  I thought about taking pictures of the April products, but they look exactly the same so I guess I won’t.  The only thing that looks satisfyingly low is my tiny Chloe Fleur de Parfum sample!  Now that May is upon us, I have switched out some of the products, and I am ready to use my May Makeup Basket!

Here are the products I want to focus on using in the May Makeup Basket:

May makeup basket - Makeup forever Waterblend

My HG, ride-or -die Make Up Forever Water Blend Foundation in the shade Y215.  I will always love you Water Blend Foundation.  So easy to apply, so cooling on my skin, so breathable and moisturizing, does not accentuate my dry spots, the perfect color match, and it’s the sheer light coverage I love.  It also smells good.

Lately, I’ve been quite pleased with my skin because it is less flaky and dry after I switched up my skin care products.  In light of that, I’ve just been applying this foundation with my fingers – no fuss at all.  Before, I would use a sponge to stamp it on so as to not kick up the flakiness with my hands or a brush, though it hardly accentuates it at all on its own.  I drew a little line to mark how much foundation is currently left.  Out of all of my foundations, this is the one with noticeable empty space.  I recently realized how much I love empty space!

Milani Make It Last setting spray.  This was in my last makeup basket and I’ve made  a little progress, as you can see by the line I drew on it for April.  I think I will make more progress this month as I am feeling ready to use makeup again!

Chloe Fleur de Parfum sample.  This was also in my last basket, and it’s almost empty!  Another week and it will will be gone, and I will start using my Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey Perfume.  Fruity and slightly floral, it smells like fresh nectarines, not the cloying candy fruit scents that I hate!  Nectarine Blossom is the perfect summer scent.

may Makeup basket - bobbi brown shimmer brick powder eyeshadows

May is looking like a month of Bobbi Brown and I’m not complaining one bit 🙂  The love affair continues.

Bobbi Brown Sheer Pressed Powder in Pale Yellow.  I got this in my recent Bobbi Brown order, before I decided to go on a much needed no-buy for the rest of 2017.  I used it a few times and  I may speak on this more at the end of May after I’ve thoroughly used this product.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Nectar.  This was in my April basket and it gives a lovely coral and gold glow to my face.  It is quite pigmented though, so for pale princesses, I use the faintest touch with my brush, building it up to the glow I like and blending it in with my blush.   Whatever is left over I apply on my temples and top of my nose.  Then at the end, I’ll take my powder brush to do a sweep of my face to blend it in some more.

Bobbi Brown Eye shadows in Espresso and Stone.  Stone is a beautiful warm toned taupe, brown, and silver color very much like MAC’s satin taupe except Stone comes out warm toned on me while Satin Taupe is cool.  I love it all over my lids as a sheer wash of color though it sometimes comes off as too much of a camel color on me if I use too much.

For eyeliner this month, I feel like using Espresso eye shadow lightly pressed into my lash line.  I am over applying eye liner for the time being and yearn for the simplicity of a few dabs of a dark eye shadow to define the eyes.  I don’t even feel like winging out the eyeliner.  I just want utterly natural definition.  Plus, removal at night is a breeze because it’s just a powder.

May Makeup basket - benefit hoola lite and dandelion kevyn aucoin sculpting powder

Benefit Dandelion blush.  A “you can’t go wrong with me” type of blush.  It smells amazing too!  A good dupe would be L’Oreal True Match Blush in Baby Blossom.

Benefit Hoola Lite bronzer.  Really, an amazing option for pale princesses who would like to gently bronze up their skin!  It is cooler in tone than most bronzers and is very light.  I am looking forward to using it this month, and of course, it smells lovely too.

Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium.  I’ve had this contour powder for 3-4 years and it’s still going strong.  It was my favorite before I discovered the Sephora Colorful Powder in Tranquil.  It is much more brown than the Sephora powder, but still cool toned enough that it doesn’t look weirdly bronze or muddy on my face if used with a light hand.  There is a slight dip in the middle of the pan that I want to focus on, but I don’t hope to make much progress with it in one month.  It’s very pigmented and I only use the lightest dabs on the hollows of my cheeks and my nose!

May Makeup Basket

Top to Bottom: Rimmel Brow Pencil; Lancome Definicils Waterproof mascara; Maybelline Full N Soft Waterproof mascara; MUFE Ultra HD Concealer; Rimmel Moisture Renew transparent lip pencil

All of the above were in my April basket, and I’m still using them!  I’ll only go into one of them.

Make Up Forever Ultra HD concealer in Y21.  I honestly have not found a concealer formula that I prefer more in my makeup adventures and misadventures. It’s light weight, moisturizing and has good coverage.  Y21 is a super light shade too!  Rejoice, pale princesses!  In fact, now that I’ve been using it more, I think it is TOO light for me to just slap on.  I just use a careful amount under my eyes to brighten them.  I could also use it on the high points of my cheeks and nose for a natural, liquid highlight.  When I finish this tube, I’ll repurchase in the next lightest shade, Y23.

And finally, we have the lipstick!

Bobbi Brown Pale Mauve Lip Color.  This is also new from my last Bobbi Brown order before I went on a makeup detox.  Pale Mauve is a lovely natural color for me.  I don’t think it is too cool-toned a pink, which works better for me.  I feel it is a creamy formula.  I always wear lipstick with some sort of lip balm with SPF so cannot speak to whether it’s drying over time.  It’s worth checking out if you are in the market for a new quality MLBB lip color!

Here is the look I’ll be focusing on wearing this month using the products I just mentioned.

It’s a very natural, no fuss, boring look that I live in!

Oh and as for how I’m doing on my no-buy so far – I did 100% amazeballs.   I didn’t buy one iota of makeup since starting this no-buy in the beginning of April.  Shopping my stash makes me happy 🙂

Are you shopping your stash or on a no-buy too?  How does it feel?

All items mentioned were purchased by myself.  All opinions are my own.
